Coaching Staff

Head Coach Enrico Blasi
In the 11 years since taking over the helm of Miami's hockey program, head coach Enrico Blasi has helped the program achieve what many thought could never be done in a small town in Southwest Ohio. Fortunately, Blasi has never been one to worry about the perceptions of others, and using a "team-first" mantra, he has elevated the RedHawks into a nationally-prominent program. The crowning achievement came this past April, when Miami made its first-ever NCAA Championship Game appearance. "It is our goal to win a national title," said Blasi. "We have the support of our institution and the community, and we feel like the future of Miami hockey has never been brighter." A 1994 graduate of Miami, Blasi took over the reins at his alma mater in 1999 as the youngest head coach in Division I hockey and has worked tirelessly ever since to make that family the strongest unit it can be. With the 2006 National Coach of the Year Award, three Central Collegiate Hockey Association Coach of the Year Awards, a CCHA Championship and five trips to the NCAA Tournament under his belt in just 10 seasons with the Red and White, Blasi's ideals of family and togetherness are paying big dividends in Oxford.

Chris Bergeron
Assistant Coach

About to begin his 10th season as a member of the coaching staff at Miami, assistant coach Chris Bergeron has been a part of seven 20-win seasons, five trips to the NCAA Tournament, one CCHA Championship and has helped the Red and White finish either first or second in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in three of the last six years. A native of Wallaceburg, Ontario, he is heavily involved in the recruiting process and works extensively with Miami's forwards. Under his guidance, six Miami forwards have earned all-CCHA accolades, including Derek Edwardson, who was a first-team performer in 2003-04 in addition to earning CCHA Player of the Year honors. Over the last three seasons, Bergeron has helped a trio of RedHawks land All-America honors -- Nathan Davis, Ryan Jones and Carter Camper. Davis was a two-time recipient, while Jones earned first team honors in 2007-08. Both have now signed with NHL teams. Camper picked up West Region All-America kudos last year.

Brekke also assisted in the development of senior Kevin Roeder, who was a finalist for the CCHA's Best Defensive Defenseman Award. During his time with the Big Red, the team made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Frozen Four in 2003, and compiled a 185-90-30 record. During the 2003 season, Brekke helped guide the team to its first No. 1 national ranking in program history.
